The service screen

One screen runs the night: the guestlist, the floor map and the calendar, with the date, the search and a menu, live on every tablet.

The service screen on its first tab, the guestlist.

Three tabs, one night

Open Service in the side menu. The screen shows one night in three ways: Guestlist lists the parties, Floor map draws the room, and Calendar sets every table against the clock. It opens on Guestlist.

The three tabs sit on the bar at the top. On a narrower screen they show only their icons, in the same order. Choosing one folds the side menu down to its icons, so the night has more room.

Change the night

  1. Press the arrows beside the date to go back or forward one day.
  2. Press the date itself to open the month and pick any day. Closed days, and days not yet open for booking, are greyed but can still be opened.
  3. On another night the date turns to a warning colour and Today lights up: press it to come back to tonight. On a phone, use Go to tonight in the ⋯ menu instead.

Tonight lasts until the time set under Business day starts at in Settings › General, so a booking just after midnight still belongs to it. A tablet left on tonight moves on to the next night by itself once that time comes.

Find a booking

Type in the search box on the bar: part of a guest’s name, a booking reference, or the last four digits of their phone number. On a narrow screen the box opens from the magnifier button.

On Guestlist, the list narrows to the bookings that match, and Clear the search brings the whole night back. On Floor map and Calendar nothing disappears: what does not match is dimmed, so a taken table never looks free. On Pro and Enterprise, the search also finds a guest on the waiting list.

The ⋯ menu

The ⋯ button at the end of the bar holds what you need now and then:

  • Go to tonight, while the screen shows another night.
  • Waiting list, on Pro and Enterprise: the waiting list, opened over the screen. See the waiting list.
  • Give the room longer, when the kitchen is behind and every table needs more time. See running late.
  • Print: the night’s bookings on paper, whichever tab is open.
  • Print the calendar, on the Calendar tab: the grid on paper.

A night that is not tonight

On Floor map, the strip above the room says in one line which night you are looking at when it is not an ordinary tonight: a closed day, with your own note if the closure has one; a night that is over, shown as it ended; a day with nothing booked yet; or a future night, shown at its first seating.

On a closed day with nothing booked, Guestlist says the day is closed instead of offering a booking, and a tap on any table explains that nothing can be booked.

Live on every tablet

Every tablet signed in to your restaurant shows the same bookings, live. A booking made online, a party seated from the bar, a table moved on another tablet: it reaches every screen within a moment, with no reloading. Each tablet still chooses its own night and its own tab.

A new booking that lands while you watch is highlighted on Guestlist for a few seconds. If the bell on the top bar is on, the tablet also plays a sound.

If the connection drops, a line across the top says: This is the room as it was a moment ago — some buttons are off. The screen keeps what it last had, and its buttons come back by themselves when the connection returns.

Good to know

  • A Service tablet runs the whole night from this screen. Taking a table out of service and putting it back are kept for an Office tablet: see taking a table out of service.
  • The waiting list, in the ⋯ menu and in the bar under the floor map and the calendar, is on Pro and Enterprise.
  • The night’s counts of parties and covers are not on the screen. The printed sheet has them.
