What is listed

Activity, in the side menu under The house, is what happened in the restaurant, newest first. Each entry is headed by its kind, for example:

  • New booking and Cancellation, with the guest, the party and the day.
  • Nearly full: a day that is almost booked up.
  • Joined the waiting list, and Table released when a booking was never confirmed.
  • Email failed: a guest email that did not send, and why.
  • New regular: a guest who has now sat with you three times.
  • A day was closed, and the other steps of closing a day.

The colour of a heading says what kind of news it is: red for what went wrong or was lost, amber for what wants a look, green for good news.

A day with many entries of one kind, such as forty new bookings, folds into one line with the first names under it; open it to see each one. The feed keeps ninety days, and Show older pages further back.

What was marked automatically

Finished automatically and No-show marked automatically say what the system marked because nobody on the team had: a table finished once its sitting and the wait were over, or a party marked a no-show on a night your team was marking guests in. Each one opens its booking, where it can be taken back (see the booking statuses).

Read and unread belong to each tablet

Read and unread are kept per tablet, not per restaurant: an entry read at the bar stays unread at the host stand. The number beside Activity in the side menu is this tablet’s unread.

  • Mark read and Mark unread on an entry, or Mark all read for everything at once.
  • Dismiss takes an entry off this tablet’s feed.
  • Unread only lists only what this tablet has not read, and All, Bookings, Guests, Lists and The house narrow the feed to one family.
  • Under This tablet, What this tablet is told about turns kinds off for this tablet: they leave the feed, history included, stop buzzing and leave the badge. Nothing is deleted, and other tablets keep their own choices.

Alerts on this tablet

A tablet can buzz when something happens, even when the office is not on screen. Each tablet chooses for itself.

  1. Press your restaurant’s name at the foot of the side menu.
  2. Press Alerts on this device, and allow notifications when the browser asks.
  3. The row now says On. Press it again to turn alerts off on this tablet.

The same switch is on Activity, under This tablet: Push to this device, with Turn on. Every kind buzzes except Email failed, Finished automatically and No-show marked automatically, which only appear in the feed, and any kind this tablet has muted. An alert is written in the language of the office it was turned on from; tapping it opens the office in that language, or brings back the one already open.

Under each entry, a short line says how many tablets its alert reached.

Good to know

  • If the row says Blocked, the browser has refused: allow notifications for this site in the browser’s settings, then turn the alerts on.
  • Where a browser cannot receive alerts, the row is not shown at all.
  • A tablet revoked in Settings › Devices stops receiving alerts.
