Where to find it

At restaurants that offer it, Tell me if a table opens sits at the end of the times for the day you picked, even when other times are free. On a day with nothing free for your party, it opens by itself.

It is not offered on a day the restaurant is closed, or for a party bigger than any table it books online.

Set an alert

  1. Choose the party and the day first, then press Tell me if a table opens.
  2. Pick the hours that suit you under From and To: up to four hours, on that day.
  3. Enter your name and email, then press Set the alert.
  4. Unless you have confirmed your email with this restaurant before, an email asks you to: press Confirm my alert in it, then Switch the alert on on the page it opens, within three days. Until then, no alert is sent. If you have, the alert starts at once, and a short email says it is on, with See or cancel this alert.

When a table opens

When a table frees up in your hours, after a cancellation for instance, you get an email with the times, usually within minutes. Press Book this table and book as usual. If you asked for a kind of table, such as step-free access, the alert waits for that kind.

Nothing is held for you: other guests may hear of it too, and the first to book gets the table. An alert sends three emails at most, at least half an hour apart, and stops once you book in your hours or your hours have passed.

Stop alerts

To end one alert only, press See or cancel this alert in its latest email — the one saying it is on, or a table alert — or Confirm my alert in the email that asked you to confirm it, then press Cancel this alert. Stop table alerts, at the foot of an alert email, stops every table alert from this restaurant and from the others of the same owner. Your booking emails still arrive. Set a new alert later, or let the restaurant set one for you on the phone, and an email asks you to confirm it first: confirming switches alerts back on.

Good to know

  • You can have up to five alerts at a time with one restaurant group, counting those not yet confirmed. An alert can be set up to 90 days ahead.
  • A place in today’s queue is a different thing: see the waiting list.
