Restaurant bookings without commission: how to stop paying per cover

A fee per cover grows with every full night. A flat price does not.

The ResOlio teamPublished 4 min read

No fee per cover: a chart of the monthly cost at 500 covers, €919 on OpenTable Core and about €1,000 on TheFork, our estimate, against €59 on ResOlio Plus.

ResOlio gives your restaurant its own booking page and an embed for your website, for one flat price that never grows with your covers: free for 50 bookings a month, with no commission and nothing for guests to pay. Some booking systems charge for each guest they send instead. Here is how that adds up, and how to stop paying it.

How a fee per cover works

  • OpenTable charges a subscription, and a fee for each network cover: a guest who booked through its own site, app or partners. On its Irish page, Core is €169 a month plus €1.50 a network cover.
  • TheFork takes a percentage of the average bill for each guest it brings, at a rate it does not publish. We estimate about €2 a cover: our estimate, not TheFork’s price.
  • SevenRooms says it charges no reservation fees, and sells its plans on quote.

How to stop paying per cover

  1. See where your guests book

Count for a month: how many come through a marketplace, and how many from your website, Instagram, Google Maps or the phone.

  2. Give them a page of your own

A booking page you can link from everywhere, and an embed for your website. Guests book with you, and nothing is charged per guest.

  3. Set it up before you pay

Add your hours, your tables and your page. Nothing is public until you go live.

  4. Go live and change your links

One switch puts your page live. Then point your website, social pages and map listing to it.

  5. Read your contract

Check the notice your marketplace agreement asks for, and honour the bookings already taken there on the night.

ResOlio’s four plans rise one by one: Free €0, Starter €39, Plus €59 and Pro €99 a month. One flat price, no fee per cover.

What a flat price looks like

On ResOlio, your plan counts bookings, and its price does not move with your covers or your bill. A full Saturday costs the same as a quiet Tuesday.

  • Free, €0: 50 bookings a month.
  • Starter, €39 a month: 500 bookings, and Olio taking bookings on your page.
  • Plus, €59 a month: 1,500 bookings, and Olio on WhatsApp.
  • Pro, €99 a month: unlimited bookings, with the waiting list, pacing and the guest book.

Guests never pay: no deposit, no card at booking, no no-show fee. Pay yearly and a month costs €32, €47 or €79. See every plan, or read the alternatives to TheFork and to OpenTable.

Your booking page, as a guest sees it. It never asks for a card.

Questions

One you pay for by plan, not by guest. ResOlio charges one flat price per restaurant, from €0, and nothing per booking, per cover or per guest.

Does OpenTable charge a fee per cover?

Yes, for network covers. On its Irish page, Core is €169 a month plus €1.50 for each guest who books through OpenTable. Bookings from your own website cost €0 there.

How much does TheFork take per cover?

TheFork does not publish its rate: it takes a percentage of the average bill for each guest it brings. We estimate about €2 a cover. That is our estimate, not TheFork’s price.

How do guests find my own booking page?

Link your ResOlio page from your website, Instagram and your Google Maps listing, and add the embed to your website. Guests who already know you book there, and you pay nothing per guest.

Do guests pay anything on ResOlio?

Never. No deposit, no card at booking and no no-show fee.
